Clinical trials produce time-sensitive data points — patient measurements, observations, adverse events — that must remain demonstrably unchanged from the moment of collection. Regulators, sponsors, and patients all need confidence that data recorded at a trial site today has not been altered, and that the record of when it was collected is trustworthy.

Traditional approaches rely on audit trails held within centralised systems. Those systems can, in principle, be altered or disputed. When a study comes under scrutiny — months or years after data collection — the integrity of the evidence rests on the trustworthiness of a single organisation's records.

ValiBlocks provides an immutable, timestamped on-chain record that any authorised party can independently verify at any point in the future — without requiring trust in any single organisation.

Your existing application canonicalises a data point and computes a digest (hash) using a standard algorithm such as SHA-256. Only the digest — never the underlying patient data — is submitted to the smart contract. The contract records the digest alongside the submitting address, the algorithm used, and a block timestamp.

To verify later, the same data is re-hashed and compared against the on-chain record. If the digests match, the data is provably unchanged, and the blockchain timestamp proves when it was first recorded. No personal or clinical data ever leaves your system.

Records are organised into trials, each with its own authorised submitters, so multiple organisations can contribute to the same study without sharing raw data. Every amendment to a record is preserved as a new version in an append-only history, providing a complete chain of custody for every data point.
